Newry City Centre Regeneration
A programme to invest and stimulate the regeneration of Newry City
Newry City Centre Regeneration scheme is a programme of works that responds to Newry Mourne & Down Councils commitment to invest within the City’s historic core to place make, increase vibrancy, footfall, and to stimulate and facilitate the further regeneration of Newry City for the benefit of the City and wider district.
The programme comprises a new Theatre/ Conference centre, a new Civic Hub, associated public realm around each of these facilities, and a fund which will facilitate the development of grade A office accommodation.
The programme of works is valued at £30m+, comprising funding from Council, the Department for Communities (DfC) via the Belfast Region City Deal, DfI Rivers and in due course the private sector.
In addition to the capital investments, the programme is working collaboratively with devolved Departments and agencies on a Traffic, Transport and Car Parking study for Newry, contributing towards DfC’s Development Plan, and will also integrate elements of DfI Rivers Flood Alleviation Scheme into the public realm works.
The Theatre/ Conference, Civic Hub and public realm projects are currently at concept design stage. It is intended to secure a contractor and statutory approvals for each scheme during 2021, with completion and occupation anticipated in 2023.
The Grade A office accommodation fund will be launched in 2021. The fund will gradually facilitate delivery of office space within the City core over the life of the Belfast Region City Deal programme.
SIB is providing a mix of advisory and delivery expertise to support Newry Mourne and Down District Council in the delivery of the programme.
